Asterisk-1.6.1.1 is available officially under extra/asterisk/
A complete list of packages
asterisk-1.6.1.1-i486-1sms.txz
asterisk-addons-1.6.1.0-i486-1sms.txz
asterisk-gui-2.0.4-i486-1sms.txz
dahdi-linux-2.2.0.1_2.6.29.5_smp-i486-2sms.txz
dahdi-linux-2.2.0.1_2.6.29.6_smp-i486-2sms.txz
dahdi-tools-2.2.0-i486-1sms.txz
libpri-1.4.10.1-i486-1sms.txz

You probably don't need to install all of them, but it wouldn't hurt if do either.
dahdi-linux compiled for 2.6.29.5-smp and 2.6.29.6-smp, so it will work only on SMS's hugesmp kernels.
I have compile an 1.4.25.1 version of asterisk but I don't think we are going to use it.

Which VOIP service is the best value for money and the best service? I find calling from land phones expensive so i like to use VOIP for international calls. Which systems do people use and what is the best?

If you are having problems with your Voip provider, I might suggest checking out this website for (http://www.voipreview.org/premium-small-business-voip) Premium Small Business VoIP. I did not like my previous service, and I checked out this site, and found some great solutions for my (http://www.voipreview.org/low-cost-business-voip-system) Low Cost Business VoIP System. I hope this is helpful.
