I installed SMS in virtualbox but when I try to install guest-additions nothing happens.
I have other OSs installed with guest-additions and this is the first time I've run into this. I know this is not really an SMS issue but was wondering if you know how to solve it. Also, you might want to consider creating a virtual appliance for SMS so people could test it without having to use additional hardware.
thanks |

Although I found Virtualbox quite slow comparing to others with linux OSs,
you need to mount guest additions
Devices > Install guest additions and
mount /dev/hdc(?) /mnt/cdrom
cd /mnt/cdrom
./VBoxLinuxAdditions-x86.run
Of course you need a full installation with devel series installed.
I had created a virtualbox image for a user in the past with full installation of SMS-1.4.5 and openbavo, taking 1.1GB compressed.
I thought of it then, but that's the reason of the LiveCD,
It's faster and you can use it immediately, and test you hardware to.
But it's an option no matter what I'm thinking
I'll do some testing about the size, maybe install the basic packages, and leave devel, x-kde for user to install.

thanks for the reply. I had already tried that - I've installed quite a few different distros in virtualbox but this was the first time I've had this issue.
I've used kvm and qemu together to make a really fast vm (thanks to alien Bob). But virtualbox is so easy and convenient for the distro I am using.
thanks anyway - will keep trying to figure out the issue. If I solve it, will post back the solution. |

I just install a full installation, and guest additions compiled successfully.
What logs are saying?
/var/log/vboxadd-install.log
/var/log/vboxadd-install-x11.log

I found that my vm for XP had the guest-additions still attached. I unattached and then started SMS and attached cd .iso there and now all works.
